About The Cotsen Foundation for Academic Research

The Cotsen Foundation for Academic Research (CFAR) based in Los Angeles makes the renowned Cotsen Collections accessible to museums and the academic world. CFAR is a private, non-profit organization whose objective is to support the exploration and exhibition of objects in the Cotsen Collections. The Foundation particularly encourages research that takes an innovative approach and reflects the Founder's appreciation for discovering the extraordinary in the ordinary.

CFAR's existence is fundamentally philanthropic; all objects in the collections will ultimately be gifted to appropriate institutions to educate scholars and the public in the areas of textiles, ethnographic objects and ancient art. CFAR grants will ensure that many of these works are thoroughly studied and exhibited by scholars both prior to, and following, their donation. Any research enhancing the value of an object in the collections will benefit the institution to which that object is ultimately donated.

Please note that the foundation does not accept unsolicited applications for funding.
